Shredded Beef Sauce is an Chinese style Beef sauce. It’s a quick and easy recipe but it’s bound to be a winner any day. As with most Asian style sauces, Soy Sauce is very necessary and will be incorporated into this shredded beef sauce to give it its distinct Chinese flavour. Oyster Sauce adds to the flavour and gives it a sweetish ting but feel free to omit it if you’re not into sweet sauces but oyster Sauce is really the star in this recipe.
I particularly like Shredded Beef sauce cos it’s very easy to whip up and absolutely tasty. To enhance the taste of your sauce, you should consider marinating your beef for as long as possible. I prefer to marinate overnight most times.
400g Very Tender Beef
4 Tablespoons Vegetable Oil
1 Teaspoon Sesame Oil (Use Vegetable oil if you can’t source Sesame)
2 Tablespoons Soy Sauce
3 Tablespoons Oyster Sauce
1 Tablespoon Rice wine/Dry sherry or 3 Tablespoons Chicken Stock
1 Tablespoon Corn Starch/Corn Flour
1 Small Onion Sliced
1/2 Green, Yellow, Red Peppers Thinly Sliced
5 Medium Mushrooms Thinly sliced (Optional)
3 Minced Garlic Cloves
1 Tablespoon Minced Ginger
1 Teaspoon Brown/White Sugar
1 Teaspoon Garlic Powder
1/4 Teaspoon Black Pepper
1 Knorr Chicken Cube
1/2 Teaspoon Beef Seasoning of your choice
First, wash the meat to rid it of blood and cut against the grain. Cut in 2 inch diagonal strips. Marinate the meat with the Knorr Cube, Beef seasoning, Garlic Powder and the Corn Starch/flour. Leave to marinate for at least an hour. For maximum taste and flavour, marinate overnight….
Mix the Soy Sauce, Oyster Sauce, Cooking wine, Sesame oil, Black pepper, Sugar and set aside…
Pour 3 tablespoons of oil in a wok or large frying pan, place on a hob on medium heat. When it’s hot, add the minced garlic and ginger, sauté for a minute, be careful not to burn the garlic…
Now add the marinated beef into the pan, stir and fry till cooked, this should take 2-3 minutes…
When it’s cooked, remove the beef from the pan, discard the oil in the pan, add another 2 tablespoons of oil, when its hot, add the onions into the pan, sauté for 2 minutes, then add the sliced peppers, sauté for 2 minutes. Then, add the mushrooms, sauté for a minute…
Now add the mixed sauce, leave to simmer for 1 minute…
Turn the heat down to low. Then add the fried beef back into the pan, stir and combine, simmer for 2 minutes…
And it’s ready….
Enjoy with Boiled/ Fried Rice or Noodles….
