Chinese Beef Stir Fry With Crunchy Vegetables

Beef Stir Fry is one of my favourite Stir Fry recipes. This recipe is an Asian in inspired recipe, so like most Asian style recipes, we will be using Soy sauce and Sesame oil, though Sesame Oil is optional. We will be incorporating Vegetables as well, you do not need to use the exact vegetables the recipe calls for, feel free to pick and choose your preferred vegetables.

Beef stir fry

300g Beef cut into strips

3 Tablespoons Vegetable Oil

1 Teaspoon Sesame Oil (Optional)

1 Tablespoon Cornflour or Cornstarch

3 Tablespoons Soy Sauce

2-3 Sweet Bell peppers cut into strips

1 Tablespoon Minced Garlic

1 Tablespoon Minced Ginger

Tablespoon Butter

1 Cup Trimmed Runner Beans

1 Tablespoon Brown Sugar

Medium Onion, Sliced

1 Teaspoon Garlic Powder

1 Tablespoon Beef Seasoning

Salt to taste

Marinate the beef pieces with the Garlic powder, Cornflour/Cornstarch, Black pepper, half of the Beef Seasoning and Salt to taste. Leave to marinate for at least an hour.

Place a Skillet or Wok on medium heat. When it’s hot, add the Butter…

When the Butter is melted, add the chopped Onions and saute till the Onions caramelise. this should take 5-6 minutes.  Transfer the caramelised onions into a plate..

Place the Wok back on the heat, then add the Vegetable oil. When it heats up, add the marinated marinated Beef pieces.

Fry on both sides till brown and cooked. When it’s cooked, transfer the cooked Beef pieces into a plate.

Place the Wok back on the heat, now add the minced Garlic and Ginger, saute till fragrant…

Now increase the heat to high, then add the Peppers, Carrots and Runner Beans or any other Vegetables you’ll be using. Saute for 3-4  minutes. You’ll need to work really fast here cos you’re working with high heat…

You’ll need to cook on high heat if you want your vegetables crunchy. If you use medium or low heat, you’ll end up with soggy vegetables as the Vegetables will sweat out moisture during the cooking process.

Then, add the Beef back into the wok…

Stir and combine, then add the Soy Sauce, Sesame oil, Brown sugar and the rest of the chicken seasoning. Cook for 1 minute. You can mix the brown Sugar with the Soy Sauce before adding to the pan.

Then, add the caramelised Onions back into the wok, stir and combine, simmer for a minute.

    • Hi, sorry for the late response. you should use soft beef like Sirloin steak. You probably used flank steak hence the chewiness.
